Our school magazine
Luke and Clare help to write a magazine for students at their school, Greenside Community College. It’s called Pulse and it comes out twice a term. Here’s a page from this month’s edition.
Read the ‘Who’s who?’ article from Pulse. Then make a magazine page about some of the people at your school.
Who’s who at Greenside?
Find out more about the people who work at Greenside Community College.
Perhaps you’re reading this article in the canteen, while you’re eating your lunch. This month we’d like to introduce you to the person who does all the cooking. His name’s Del Stanley. Del trained to be a chef in London and he came to Greenside College two years ago. He says ‘I like using fresh, local food if I can. It isn’t always easy to find things that everyone likes – teenagers are very unadventurous when they choose their meals!’
Mónica Gómez is our new language teaching assistant. She comes from La Coruńa in northwest Spain. She’s going to spend a year here. She’s interested in learning languages, of course, and she also likes cycling and dancing. Have you tried her fantastic dance classes? They’re every Thursday at 5.30 in the gym. At the moment, she’s teaching her students salsa. Mónica says she likes Liverpool but she finds the local accent very difficult to understand. So, when you chat to her, remember to speak clearly!
A lot of people say that our caretaker Jeff Chapple is the most important person in the school. He’s the one who mends the heating when it stops working, locks the school at the end of the day and makes sure that the buildings are clean and safe. He told us, ‘This certainly isn’t a nine-to-five job. You have to start early in the morning, and work in the evening and at weekends too.‘ When he’s got some free time, he plays snooker at the local pub, and he also likes judo. He's got a black belt in judo!
