My window on the world

On holiday!
British schoolchildren usually have two weeks’ holiday at Christmas, two weeks at Easter and about six weeks in the summer.
At Easter, I sometimes go to Alton Towers theme park with my friends. We go on the coach and take a picnic lunch. My favourite ride is ‘Nemesis Sub-Terra’. They describe it as ‘your worst nightmare underground’, but I don’t think it’s very frightening. Last year we went on a new ride called ‘The Smiler’ – an enormous roller coaster, and everyone felt ill.
Christmas is always a special time in the UK. We always have a Christmas tree and presents, and everyone eats too much. We have turkey with roast potatoes and vegetables, and then Christmas pudding. Sometimes my grandparents come and stay with us. If it snows, I go tobogganing in the park. Manchester always looks beautiful, with lots of special lights.
School usually finishes in the third week of July, and we go back to school at the beginning of September. In the summer, we often go to France in our caravan. We get the ferry from Dover to Calais and then we drive to the south-west. We stay at a campsite on the coast. I try to speak French but I’m not very good at it. Sometimes I go to Jack’s house in Exeter during the school holidays. I’m going to stay with him in August. We’ll probably go camping on Dartmoor, so I hope the weather will be good.
