Shopping in London
London is a fantastic place for shopping.
These are some of my favourite shops.
My favourite clothes shop is Topshop. You can find one in most big towns. I go to the one at Oxford Circus, in the middle of London. It’s one of the largest ‘high street’ shops in the world. More than 30,000 people go there every day, so it’s nearly always crowded.
Selfridges, in Oxford Street, is one of the biggest department stores in London. Many famous stars visit it when they’re in the UK. It has got six floors and you can buy nearly everything there. It has got a hairdresser, an optician, a travel agent and 11 cafés and restaurants too. It’s even got a ‘cycle surgery’, where you can get everything you can imagine for your bike.
If you want a bit of magic in your life, then go to Davenports Magic Shop. It’s at Charing Cross tube station, near Trafalgar Square. The shop began in 1898 and all the shop assistants are professional magicians. It’s full of fascinating tricks, jokes, puzzles, games, cards and books. They also run magic workshops there for adults and children, so you can learn some amazing tricks to impress all your friends.
There are many different markets in London and they’re all busy and colourful. Camden Market is a good place for clothes, shoes, jewellery, souvenirs and presents. The nearest tube stations are Camden and Chalk Farm.
London has got some fantastic food markets. The oldest (it began in the 13th century) and busiest is Borough Market near London Bridge.
If you like science fiction and horror stories, you’ll love Forbidden Planet. Its London megastore is in Shaftesbury Avenue, near Piccadilly Circus. It’s the world’s biggest and best-known shop for science fiction books and horror stories, as well as hundreds of comics, DVDs, games, models, toys, costumes, magazines and posters.
